E-Commerce

Roman Zenner

I've been there from the start.

As a developer, software architect, project manager, consultant, lecturer and author, I've built up a wide range of experience over more than 25 years. I've helped develop standards, planned and built mobile shops, supported platform decisions and led teams through all these phases.

I bring this experience to your e-commerce projects – whether as a technical consultant, architect or project manager.

The Evolution

Since the dot-com crash in 2000, e-commerce has steadily professionalised and constantly evolved:

In the early days, the focus was on creating reliable standards so that websites and online shops looked and behaved similarly across different browsers and systems.

When the iPhone appeared in 2007, the mobile internet came into focus: online shops had to become mobile-ready or "responsive" so that customers could shop comfortably on smaller screens.

Then the topic of platforms and marketplaces became current. Retailers wondered whether their own online presence was enough, or whether they should rely on third-party providers.

Social media also had a lasting impact on online retail. The younger generation in particular doesn't get inspired by Google searches, but by influencers – and often buys directly from them.

And today we're exploring how AI can help optimise backend processes and imagining how shopping agents will buy online on behalf of their human clients in the future.
